Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and volunteering for the community. The first is his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on a Eufala farm. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in all of the nation. Lee Roy won two championships, and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975 and selected as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during his time in college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Also, he began his career in the field of business. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relation Manager for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of America's most outstanding young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. The year 1975 was the first time he led the squad. In 1993, he was a part of the University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
